The Kit includes:
  • Mint, Basil, Lemon Balm and Borage seeds
  • 4 x Peat pots, 4 x Peat pellets and 4 x plant labels
  • Gin cocktail recipe idea
  • Instructions for growing the seeds

Instructions:

Borage:

  • Direct sow, early Spring, or Autumn. Cover the peat pellet with hot water and wait for it to rise and expand, then place it into the peat pot.
  • Sow a few seeds approx 3 times the depth of the seed, cover and gently firm down in the peat pellet. Keep soil moist but not wet during germination period (5-12 days)
  • Once the seedlings are approx 5-10cm tall, plant the peat pot directly into the soil. Borage grows well in a warm and sunny part of the garden or even in a pot.
  • Once the plant has it’s tiny blue flowers you can use these in your cooking and add to cocktails or simply leave them for the bees.

Mint:

  • Sow seeds in Spring. Cover the peat pellet with hot water and wait for it to rise and expand, then place it into peat pot.
  • Sprinkle a pinch of seeds over the peat pellet and cover and firm down gently. Keep the soil moist and in a warm spot until seeds germinate.
  • Once the seedlings are approx 5-10cm tall, plant the peat pot directly into the soil or mint also grows really well in a pot.
  • Once the plant has lush leafy growth you can harvest the leaves to add to your favorite cocktail, salad or use to make a mint dressing.

Lemon Balm:

  • Sow early Spring. cover the peat pellet with hot water and wait for it to rise and expand, then place it into peat pot.
  • Sprinkle a pinch of seeds over the peat pellet and cover and firm down gently. Keep the soil moist and in a warm spot until seeds germinate.
  • Once the seedlings are approx 5-10cm tall, plant the peat pot directly into the soil. Lemon balm grows best in full sun but needs a little shade from the intensity of midday sun. Lemon balm also grows well in containers.
  • Once the plant has healthy leafy growth you can harvest some leaves to add to a cocktail and crush with the ice to release it fragrance or add to a herbal tea and steep with hot water.

Basil:

  • Sow in the Spring when frosts are over or under cover in a warm sunny spot protected from frosts. Cover the peat pellet with hot water and wait for it to rise and expand, then place it into peat pot.
  • Sprinkle a few seeds on the peat pellet, cover and firm down gently. Keep the soil moist but not wet until germination.
  • Once the seedlings are approx 5-10cm tall, plant the peat pot directly into the soil. Plant in a warm sunny area and in a well-drained soil or basil can be grown indoors in pots in well-lit areas.
  • You may need to thin out the seedlings by plucking out any of the smaller seedlings to allow space for the others to grow.
  • Frequent picking of the leaves ensures a continuous supply of basil. Add the leaves to your favourite cocktail, pasta or salad. Alternatively, when you have a large amount of leaves you can make basil pesto.

Eco criteria

Eco Product selection criteria

When we source our products, we try to find as many environmental benefits as possible. We source eco products that do not cause any unnecessary harm to our environment.
This particular product matches the following critera (click on each to see other products matching the same):

All of our eco criteria explained

Made from recycled materials or is recyclable

Recycling has many benefits like saving energy, conserving raw materials, reducing the amount of stuff that goes to landfills and it's also saving you money. 2.5 Million Tons of waste go to landfills each year (8kg per person/week) 3/4 could be saved by re-using, recycling and composting. Re-duce, Re-use, Re-cycle!

Contain no toxins or harmful ingredients

Many people suffer from allergies, asthma and other sensitivities because of products that contain toxins or otherwise harmful ingredients. Most of these products are used inside the house eg. for cleaning, as body care products, as a detergent and so on. We try to source products that are mostly natural and do not cause any harm to you or your environment.

Be compostable or biodegradable

What is the difference? Compostable materials provide the earth with nutrients once it has completely broken down. Biodegradable materials refer to the ability of breaking down and return to nature. Buying products that are compostable and/or biodegradable will help to reduce the amount of waste that goes to landfills.

Fairly traded or Fairtrade certified

At the beginning of most production chains are the workers and farmers (producers). Sadly they do not always get a fair share of the benefits of the trade. You as a consumer can now make a conscious decision about buying fairtrade or fairly traded products and putting this right.

Reduce the dependence on oil

Many household items are made of plastic. Because plastic doesn't react chemically with most other substances, it doesn't break down or decay. Therefore, plastic poses a significant environmental problem as it hangs around in the environment for a very long time. We stock many products that use little or no plastic in order to reduce our dependence on oil.

Cruelty free

The testing on animals for cosmetic and consumer products needs to stop. Whether you decide to buy only vegan products, or just start incorporating more cruelty-free products into your life, it's definitely worth to go animal friendly. The products we source are cruelty-free and do not harm or kill animals in their making.
