It has been a while since our last blog...
Beginning of February me and my daughter opened a new toothbrush and wrote the date onto the brushes. This was out of pure curiosity as I really wanted to know how long my toothbrush would last, as well as our daughter's one. Brushing along each day, completely forgot about the wee note at the bottom of the brush. I realised this morning that we have been using the same brush again and again for exactly 5 weeks. And, they are still going strong. Not only the adult brush but the kids brush too. Can you remember how long a kids brush lasts from the supermarket? probably 3 weeks max....that's about 18 toothbrushes a year for one child. Ok let's do the maths:
Regular toothbrush: one child uses 18 brushes (if each brush is replaced every 3 weeks) at a cost of $3.99. That is a total yearly cost of $71.82. Plus all the rubbish that is produced with packaging and the toothbrush itself which all goes to landfills.
Woobamboo toothbrush: one child uses 8 brushes (if each brush is replaced every 7 week) at a cost of $8.50 for a pack of two. That is a total yearly cost of $34. Plus the packaging and the bristles are recyclable and the brush is compostable. Mean there is no rubbish that goes to landfills at all.
A saving of $ 37.82. Yes we agree those are small amounts but thinking of a household with 3 kids that is a saving of over $100 which can go towards the saving for a family holiday :-) and we haven't looked into the adults brushes but I will get back to you on that one. As I said my brush is still going strong.
