  • Instructions for growing the seeds

Instructions:

Thyme:

  • Sow Seeds in the Spring. Cover the peat pellet with hot water and wait for it to rise and expand, then place it into peat pot
  • The seeds need to be started in a warm frost- free place. A greenhouse or your window sill would work well. Keep under cover until approx 5-10cm high, then harden off by putting outside during the day and inside at night for a few days
  • Plant the seedlings in the peat pot directly into their final positions, in well-drained soil with full sunlight. Thyme can also be grown in a pot
  • You may need to thin out the seedlings by plucking out any of the smaller ones to allow space for the others to grow
  • Harvest the leaves for cooking with roast potatoes, meat, herb butter, pasta etc. Alternatively, Thyme has a lot of medicinal properties and can be used to help fight cold and flu symptoms

Chives:

  • Sow seeds early Spring to Autumn. Cover the peat pellet with hot water and wait for it to rise and expand, then place it into peat pot
  • Sow seed at a depth approximately three times the diameter of the seed. Sprinkle a few seeds in the peat pellet, cover and gently firm down
  • Once the seedlings are approx 5-10cm high, you can start to put them outside during the day to harden them up and bring them back inside at night
  • Then plant the seedlings in the peat pot directly into the soil. Chives can also be grown in a pot
  • Once the plants have long leafy growth, you can harvest some of the leaves for herb butter, salads, eggs etc

Parsley:

  • Sow Italian parsley in Spring, Summer or Autumn. Cover the peat pellet with hot water and wait for it to rise and expand, then place it into peat pot
  • Sow seed at a depth approximately three times the diameter of the seed. Sprinkle a few seeds in the peat pellet, cover and gently firm down
  • Once the plants are approx 5cm tall you can plant the peat pots directly into the soil in it’s final position or parsley can be grown in a pot
  • You may need to thin out the seedlings by plucking out any of the smaller seedlings to allow space for the others to grow
  • When the plant has leafy growth you can harvest some of the leaves for pesto, herb butter, salads, eggs, prawn dishes etc

Eco criteria

Eco Product selection criteria

When we source our products, we try to find as many environmental benefits as possible. We source eco products that do not cause any unnecessary harm to our environment.
This particular product matches the following critera (click on each to see other products matching the same):

All of our eco criteria explained

Made from recycled materials or is recyclable

Recycling has many benefits like saving energy, conserving raw materials, reducing the amount of stuff that goes to landfills and it's also saving you money. 2.5 Million Tons of waste go to landfills each year (8kg per person/week) 3/4 could be saved by re-using, recycling and composting. Re-duce, Re-use, Re-cycle!

Contain no toxins or harmful ingredients

Many people suffer from allergies, asthma and other sensitivities because of products that contain toxins or otherwise harmful ingredients. Most of these products are used inside the house eg. for cleaning, as body care products, as a detergent and so on. We try to source products that are mostly natural and do not cause any harm to you or your environment.

Be compostable or biodegradable

What is the difference? Compostable materials provide the earth with nutrients once it has completely broken down. Biodegradable materials refer to the ability of breaking down and return to nature. Buying products that are compostable and/or biodegradable will help to reduce the amount of waste that goes to landfills.

Fairly traded or Fairtrade certified

At the beginning of most production chains are the workers and farmers (producers). Sadly they do not always get a fair share of the benefits of the trade. You as a consumer can now make a conscious decision about buying fairtrade or fairly traded products and putting this right.

Reduce the dependence on oil

Many household items are made of plastic. Because plastic doesn't react chemically with most other substances, it doesn't break down or decay. Therefore, plastic poses a significant environmental problem as it hangs around in the environment for a very long time. We stock many products that use little or no plastic in order to reduce our dependence on oil.

Cruelty free

The testing on animals for cosmetic and consumer products needs to stop. Whether you decide to buy only vegan products, or just start incorporating more cruelty-free products into your life, it's definitely worth to go animal friendly. The products we source are cruelty-free and do not harm or kill animals in their making.
