The Kit includes:
  • Sugar snap pea, Pumpkin, Sunflower and Sweet Corn seeds
  • 4 x Peat pots, 4 x Peat pellets and 4 x plant labels
  • Instructions to grow these seeds

Instructions:

Sweet Corn:

  • Sow seeds in the Spring. Cover the peat pellet with hot water and wait for it to rise and expand, then place it into peat pot
  • Sow seeds at a depth approximately three times the diameter of the seed. Place a few seeds in the peat pellet, cover and gently firm down. Keep moist but not wet until germination (5-10 days)
  • Once the seedlings have reached approximately 5cm high, plant the peat pot directly into the soil. Space the plants approx 20cm apart so they have plenty of room to grow
  • You may need to thin out the seedlings by plucking out any of the smaller seedlings to allow space for the others to grow
  • Once the plant has produced a corn cob that is approximately 20cm long, you can harvest to cook and eat

Sugar Snap Peas:

  • Sow early Autumn or Spring. Cover the peat pellet with hot water and wait for it to rise and expand, then place it into peat pot
  • Sow seeds at a depth approximately three times the diameter of the seed. Place a few seeds in the peat pellet, cover and gently firm down
  • keep the seeds moist but not wet during germination. Sit them in a warm or sunny place. Once they are approx 5cm high, you can plant the peat pot and pellet directly into the soil
  • You may need to thin out the seedlings by plucking out any of the smaller seedlings to allow space for the others to grow
  • They can grow up to 2m high so it is a good idea to grow them against netting or a trellis. Sugar snap peas are best eaten fresh straight off the plant

Sunflower:

  • Sow early Spring to early Summer. Cover the peat pellet with hot water and wait for it to rise and expand, then place it into peat pot
  • Sow seeds at a depth approximately three times the diameter of the seed. Place a few seeds in the peat pellet, cover and gently firm down
  • Once the seedlings are 5-10cm tall you can plant your sunflowers in full sun and space plants 20-30 cm apart
  • You may need to thin out the seedlings by plucking out any of the smaller seedlings to allow space for the others to grow
  • Sunflowers can grow to 1 - 2 metres tall and may need staking or protection from the wind with a fence near by

Pumpkin:

  • Sow in September, October or November. Cover the peat pellet with hot water and wait for it to rise and expand, then place it into peat pot
  • Sow seeds at a depth approximately three times the diameter of the seed. Soak the seeds overnight before planting. Place a few seeds in the peat pellet, cover and gently firm down
  • Once the seedlings are approximately 5cm high you can plant the peat pot directly into the soil
  • You may need to thin out the seedlings by plucking out any of the smaller seedlings to allow space for the others to grow
  • Pumpkins will spread so make sure they are planted where they will not smother any other plants

Eco criteria

Eco Product selection criteria

When we source our products, we try to find as many environmental benefits as possible. We source eco products that do not cause any unnecessary harm to our environment.
This particular product matches the following critera (click on each to see other products matching the same):

All of our eco criteria explained

Made from recycled materials or is recyclable

Recycling has many benefits like saving energy, conserving raw materials, reducing the amount of stuff that goes to landfills and it's also saving you money. 2.5 Million Tons of waste go to landfills each year (8kg per person/week) 3/4 could be saved by re-using, recycling and composting. Re-duce, Re-use, Re-cycle!

Contain no toxins or harmful ingredients

Many people suffer from allergies, asthma and other sensitivities because of products that contain toxins or otherwise harmful ingredients. Most of these products are used inside the house eg. for cleaning, as body care products, as a detergent and so on. We try to source products that are mostly natural and do not cause any harm to you or your environment.

Be compostable or biodegradable

What is the difference? Compostable materials provide the earth with nutrients once it has completely broken down. Biodegradable materials refer to the ability of breaking down and return to nature. Buying products that are compostable and/or biodegradable will help to reduce the amount of waste that goes to landfills.

Fairly traded or Fairtrade certified

At the beginning of most production chains are the workers and farmers (producers). Sadly they do not always get a fair share of the benefits of the trade. You as a consumer can now make a conscious decision about buying fairtrade or fairly traded products and putting this right.

Reduce the dependence on oil

Many household items are made of plastic. Because plastic doesn't react chemically with most other substances, it doesn't break down or decay. Therefore, plastic poses a significant environmental problem as it hangs around in the environment for a very long time. We stock many products that use little or no plastic in order to reduce our dependence on oil.

Cruelty free

The testing on animals for cosmetic and consumer products needs to stop. Whether you decide to buy only vegan products, or just start incorporating more cruelty-free products into your life, it's definitely worth to go animal friendly. The products we source are cruelty-free and do not harm or kill animals in their making.
