About us / Our Story

We are a family-owned business. We work hard to provide a huge range of sustainable and eco-friendly products available to everyone. Our goal is to reduce waste and limit the harm “conventional” items may have on our planet. We believe that each person should do their best to work within their ability to reduce their impact on our Earth.

We only have one planet, we must make it last as long as possible.

Let us tell you a little bit more about our family. Since many businesses sell items with the intent to solely make a quick profit, we want to let it be known that we also walk the talk. We work hard to be as sustainable as we would like to see others in the world be.

So thank you for visiting our site and being part of this journey.

Kitchen, Composting and Recycling

First off, studies show that up to 70% of all items that get tossed in the landfill can be salvaged through composting and recycling. This is why we try to compost and recycle everything that we can. In fact, we compost using the Bokashi Composting System. This system allows us to get the most out of our food scraps, and be able to give the most nutrients back into the Earth.

Anything that we cannot reuse, compost, or recycle, sadly has to get tossed. However, all of our bins are lined with reusable bin liners, which can be washed and used over and over again. This in turn also helps reducing plastic bags, which are hard to recycle for most people.

When it comes to our kitchen, we try to make as little waste as possible. While dishes can be a chore, they do not have to be wasteful. We use wooden brushes, as well as reusable scrubbers and dishcloths to clean our dishes. Our dishwashing liquid is plant-based, biodegradable and refillable, and we use a Soap Shaker and our own Dish Soap Bars. We don’t use any chemicals to clean – our own Natural Cleaning Spray, good old fashioned vinegar, baking soda, elbow grease and some probiotics do the trick just as well.

Bathroom and Laundry

Our bathroom and laundry routine is far less wasteful as well. We use bamboo toothbrushes, bamboo dental flossbamboo cotton buds and toothpaste that is not packaged in plastic. This keeps our waste to a minimum and allows us to feel better when brushing our teeth. And with billions of toothbrushes headed to the landfill each year around the world, we have to do what is best.

Shampoo, Conditioner, Body/hand wash and lotion that used to come in plastic bottles have been replaced with quality soap bars. These are plastic free and create zero waste! When it comes to our laundry, we wash with a detergent called Soapnuts, which are small fruit shells that create a natural soap (and are compostable after they have done their job). This means that there is no waste when washing your clothes. Clothes are hung outside as much as possible and we use either Bamboo or stainless steel pegs.

Food and Grocery Shopping

We also buy from our local farmer's markets and get our spices, nuts, seeds and other items in bulk. We bring our own containers to refill and always carry a set of reusable fresh produce bags with us. This way, we can help reduce plastic packaging to a minimum while also helping out local farmers and growers.

Backyard chickens provide us with a fresh supply of eggs every day.

Our veggie patch suplies us with some extra greens, herbs and fresh spices.

Business

When it comes to the more business side of things, we have worked on that as well. Our electricity comes from 100% renewable sources, which reduces our carbon emissions by a lot. Our office is paperless, so there is little to no waste. Besides keeping it all online helps for better organization.

Even in our packaging, we work to ship everything without creating additional waste. We pack orders into cardboard boxes and use compostable kraft tape and recycled newspaper, and never use plastic in any of our shipments. Since many households do not compost, we decided not to use compostable plastic courier bags. So no need to worry about unnecessary plastic!

While we are not perfect (nobody is), the main point is to do what we can with what we have available. Don’t worry if you cannot be 100%, just do what you can, even if it means buying a reusable dishcloth instead of a plastic infused sponge from the supermarket. Pretty much everything that we have mentioned can be found and bought from our website.
