Bokashi Starter Kit, 15 Litre System & Compost-Zing
Made in New Zealand, this bokashi starter kit processes kitchen waste that traditional compost bins cannot handle — meat, fish, dairy, cooked food, and citrus — into a nutrient-rich pre-compost that conditions garden soil. The kit includes a 15-litre airtight fermentation bin and a bag of 1kg Compost-Zing, a bran-based inoculant seeded with beneficial microbes that drive the fermentation process.
Collect scraps in a separate container, empty into the bokashi bucket, press down firmly, sprinkle a layer of Zing, and seal the lid. Drain the liquid regularly. Diluted, it works as a liquid plant feed. When the bin is full, seal it for 7 days, then bury the contents in the garden or add to a compost bin to finish breaking down. The whole process takes around 4 weeks from scraps to garden-ready compost. Speeds up composting by up to 50% compared to a conventional bin.
