Deodorants
EcoWarehouse stocks natural deodorants for NZ customers in paste, stick, and crystal formats. Natural deodorants control odour through baking soda, magnesium, zinc, or mineral crystal rather than blocking sweat with aluminium compounds. They are free from aluminium, parabens, synthetic fragrance, and propylene glycol.
Frequently asked questions
Natural deodorants control odour effectively through baking soda, magnesium, zinc, or mineral crystal rather than blocking sweat with aluminium compounds. They do not prevent perspiration. Most people find them fully effective for odour control after a brief adjustment period of one to two weeks when switching from aluminium antiperspirant.
EcoWarehouse stocks natural deodorant in three formats: paste (applied with fingers, typically the strongest odour control), solid stick (most convenient for everyday use), and mineral crystal (suits very sensitive skin, no baking soda). Each format uses different active ingredients, so if one format does not suit your body chemistry, another may.
Baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) is alkaline and can cause irritation for people with sensitive or reactive skin, particularly when combined with friction from the underarm area. If you experience redness or irritation, switch to a baking-soda-free formula using magnesium hydroxide, zinc, or mineral crystal instead. These are generally better tolerated by sensitive skin.
The evidence on aluminium in antiperspirants and health risks is mixed and inconclusive. Some research has raised questions about long-term aluminium absorption through skin, particularly in the underarm area adjacent to breast tissue. Many people choose to avoid it as a precaution. Natural deodorants provide a practical aluminium-free alternative.
A 60g jar of natural deodorant paste typically lasts two to four months with daily use, depending on how much product is applied. Less is more with most natural deodorant pastes ā a pea-sized amount per underarm is usually sufficient once you have found the right quantity for your needs.
Natural deodorants control odour for most people including those who sweat heavily, but they do not reduce the volume of perspiration. For people with hyperhidrosis (clinically excessive sweating), conventional aluminium antiperspirant may remain necessary for sweat management. For odour control specifically, natural deodorants are effective for the vast majority of people.
