Drinkware
EcoWarehouse stocks reusable drinkware for NZ households and on-the-go use, including stainless steel water bottles, glass bottles, reusable coffee cups, and stainless steel straws. Every product replaces single-use plastic or disposable equivalents. New Zealand uses an estimated 53 million single-use coffee cups per year; switching to a reusable cup is one of the simplest plastic reductions available.
Frequently asked questions
Food-grade stainless steel (18/8 or 304) is the most widely recommended material. It contains no BPA or plasticisers, does not retain flavours or odours, and is extremely durable. Glass is equally safe but heavier and breakable. Avoid bottles with plastic inner linings or plastic lids that contact the drink regularly, and check that silicone seals are food-grade.
Wash with warm soapy water after each use. For deeper cleaning or to remove odours, fill with warm water and a tablespoon of oxygen bleach (sodium percarbonate), leave for 30 minutes, then rinse thoroughly. A long bottle brush helps clean the base and sides. Most insulated stainless steel bottles are not dishwasher safe as the heat can affect the vacuum seal.
A quality stainless steel drink bottle should last 10 to 20 years or more with normal use and care. The main causes of early failure are denting (which can compromise the vacuum seal on insulated bottles) and damaged or cracked lids. Most manufacturers sell replacement lids separately.
Yes for most uses. An insulated double-wall bottle keeps drinks cold for up to 24 hours and hot drinks warm for up to 12 hours, which a single-wall bottle cannot do. For outdoor activities, commuting, and sports, the insulation is worth the extra cost. For desk use where temperature retention is less important, a single-wall bottle is adequate.
Standard NZ cafe sizes are 8oz for small (flat white, short black), 12oz for medium (standard latte or flat white), and 16oz for large. Most people ordering a standard flat white or latte need a 12oz cup. If you typically order a large or add extra milk, a 16oz cup gives more flexibility.
