Sandalwood essential oil is extracted through steam distillation of wood from the East Indian Sandalwood tree.

Sandalwood is a large shrub or tree commonly found in regions with dry clay or sandy soils. The flowers and wood are harvested to produce essential oils, which are highly sought after and often referred to as "liquid gold." The oil has an earthy, woody aroma and a golden colour.

Native to India, sandalwood has been used in medicine and cosmetics for over 4,000 years. Traditionally, it played a role in spiritual practices, shrines, and jewellery.

Sandalwood essential oil was historically popular as an antiseptic in medicinal remedies, used to treat headaches, stomach aches, and inflammation.

Today, sandalwood essential oil is widely used in aromatherapy, perfumes, and cosmetics. It is renowned for promoting relaxation, mental clarity, and reducing stress in aromatherapy.

The warm, woody aroma of sandalwood oil makes it a favourite in fragrances and perfumes. It is also a common ingredient in products like bath salts, massage oils, and skincare.
