Yes. Natural Earth Paint earth and mineral pigments are used by professional fine artists globally. They have excellent lightfastness, mix well with conventional mediums, and produce rich, complex colours with depth that synthetic pigments cannot replicate. The pigments are compatible with oil, watercolour, tempera, and encaustic techniques.
Earth and mineral pigments have among the highest lightfastness ratings of any pigment type. Iron oxide pigments (ochres, siennas, umbers) are rated ASTM I (most lightfast) and are found unchanged in cave paintings and ancient artworks thousands of years old. This lightfastness significantly exceeds many synthetic organic pigments used in conventional artist paints.
Grind the dry pigment into a small amount of linseed or walnut oil on a glass palette using a palette knife or muller until smooth and homogeneous. Add oil gradually to achieve the desired consistency. Earth pigments are easy to grind into oil and produce excellent working properties. Linseed oil dries faster; walnut oil yellows less over time.
Natural Earth Paint's natural gesso is compatible with all their pigments and most conventional painting techniques. It provides a traditionally absorbent ground compared to conventional acrylic gesso. For oil painting, it may require sizing (rabbit skin glue or PVA sizing) to reduce absorbency. For watercolour and tempera, it is used unmodified.
